Satels & GPRS

This information came from a fellow distributor who has sucessfully installed a number of Satel/GPRS back to back, to provide that final mile solution.

This is how he did it!

The gprs part uses what we call Autogprs, the modem attaches itself to the network without any external commands, once connected the RS232 port is for serial data, NOT PPP protocol as in a usual remote dial-up gprs connect with *99#.

To make this work you will need a simcard with fixed IP address, see: http://www.wyless.com/ then your standard supervising computer program needs a comport redirector like Serial IP, see: http://www.tacticalsoftware.com/

The comport redirector will cheat the comport to use your office computer Ethernet connection to connect to the simcard fixed IP, the modem will be in a transparent mode waiting for an incoming tcp/ip connection. Once the data arrives (you can choose which IP is allowed to connect), the modem will deduct all of the IP shell and out comes only serial data on the RS232 port.

Now comes the Satel part, simply connect a nullmodem cable from the gprs to the 1870/3AS and then you can have a standard Satel network anywhere in the world, Wyless has gprs roaming in many countries. We also have a 4 band gprs router with Ethernet port...

Remember to set the timeout at the office program higher than usually, the first connect in a session always takes a bit longer than the rest of the same connection.

Basicly Ethernet and gprs have only been carriers of the serial data, the application still thinks it's directly connected to the comport.
