The standard units are designed to transmit data over a range of 2-3km (without using a power amplifier) in a normal urban environment license exempt. For greater distances, and with a licence, there is the Epic which can output up to 10W of power.
They come with a choice of interfaces (RS232/422/485) and with speeds of up to 19.2KBps it makes them, one of the fastest radio modems on the market as well as being one of the most reliable.
Simple to install, these systems can save on cabling costs and allow data to be accessed in otherwise difficult instances.
Now data can easily be sent across roads, rivers and fields and factory floors without major costs or disruption. Data can also be gathered on the move either by fitting the unit in a ruck sack for GPS applications, on a belt or in a vehicle such as a fork lift truck or crane.
