Power

I want to ensure that I have an adequate Power supply, I am not used to seeing the term VA - can you explain

VA is an alternative term for Watts, and is most often used in Europe

The trick is to remember that VA stands for VoltAmps (i.e. Volts x Amps)

Hence to calculate Amps we divide the VA figure by the Volts figure

In transmit mode 5.5W / 12V =0.458A (458 mA)

In receive mode 1.7W / 12V = 0.142A (142 mA)

In standby 0.05W / 12V = 0.004A ( 4 mA)

Note that the 5.5W In transmit mode will be linked to a nominal RF output power - which is as standard  500mW - therefore a 3AS cranked up to full power (1Watt ) then the supply current would increase 733mA (equivalent to 8.8VA)

XL normally allow a good margin of error and provide/recommend a (12V) power supply with a nominal current rating of 1.0 Amp
